Kit 1 Workshop - January 18, 2022

We are very excited to be partnering with the Queen City Book Bank to provide a series of four Reading Workshops featuring the Ned & Patrick Series.  Each of these workshops will focus on one literacy kit which will highlight foundational reading skills. The first workshop focuses on the six syllable types.  When children begin to recognize these chunks in words, their decoding skills rise to a whole new level.  We will walk through each of the syllables and show how to use the activity cards.  There are six books in the first kit.  Patrick and his dog, Ned, are consistent characters so that children become familiar with them and, hopefully, connect to the pair.

Teachers, we know, firsthand, the time and expense of creating your own supplemental/practice materials for your students.  Each book has ready-made, sturdy activity cards including word sorts, matching activities, and sequencing activities to name a few.  The activities can be used in stations or as independent practice work.  There are no “rules” or scripted lessons to follow.  Our goal was to design kits that offer activities in a simple, easy to use way.

Parents, our hope is that the adventures of Ned & Patrick engage your children and motivate them to read.  The activities can be used as games, challenges, writing and spelling practice, or reinforcement for your children.

Mentors and tutors, there are often times when you are looking for ways to help a struggling reader.  These kits are structured to be easy to follow and provide reading material and activities that will support a child’s steps to becoming an efficient reader.

We are very grateful for the Queen City Book Bank and the opportunity that they are giving to us.  They are strong advocates for literacy at all levels and to be working with them is a privilege.  With this type of collaboration, we can hopefully help raise literacy in many of our communities.
